Copying Buddhist Sutras

Shakyo is the art of copying of Buddhist sutras. This has been handed down for many generations, and it is still a popular practice. There are many reasons for practicing shakyo. Some do it simply as a means of improving their
calligraphic skills; for others it is primarily to improve concentration; for yet others still, it is a meditative practice - calming the mind and bringing a state of inner peace after the ups-and-downs of a hectic day.
The practice of shakyo is considered highly important as a merit-earning activity by Buddhists. By copying the sutras one can obtain the spiritual blessings or grace of a Buddha for oneself or on behalf of others.
Here is how you can enjoy shakyo:
1. Sit with your legs folded, breathe deeply, and relax.
2. Put the palms of your hands together. Bow to pray. Then chant a sutra.
3. Dip a brush in ink and begin writing.
4. At the end of the sutra you may add your wishes.
