Mifune-Matsuri Festival

The scene of a boat party on a river from 1,000 years ago is reproduced by some 20 ships on the Oi-gawa River in Arashiyama, Kyoto. Every year, 100,000 tourists come to view this graceful spectacle.
After a ritual is held at a shrine at noon, people dressed in ancient costumes proceed along the beautiful
Togetsu-kyo Bridge and board the boats.
This event, organized by Kurumazaki-jinja Shrine which stands near the river, originates from a ceremony held by the Emperor on his visits to this area.
