Taizou-in Temple
Taizo-in Temple is a small Zen temple located on the spacious grounds of Myoshin-ji Temple. The temple is famous for its two beautiful gardens, one a
dry landscape garden, the other a stroll garden around a pond. In addition, the temple houses one of Japan's oldest surviving ink paintings and a special wash basin in which water drops echo in a hidden underground chamber. These unique details captivate the senses and convey something of the mysterious essence of Zen.
Yet Taizou-in Temple offers the visitor a chance to enjoy even more of the spirit of Zen through a temple stay, or the opportunity to practice traditional Zen-inspired arts such as the tea ceremony or flower-arranging. Visitors interested in an overnight stay can learn the art of zazen (sitting meditation) and experience one night in the life of a Zen monk, including meals of shojin-ryori (vegetarian temple cuisine). This is a uniquely memorable experience.
