Hatsu Kobo and Hatsu Tenjin (flea markets)

On the grounds of To-ji Temple and Kitano Tenman-gu Shrine, flea markets are held regularly every month. In particular, the first markets of the year are called, "Hatsu Kobo (To-ji Temple)" and "Hatsu Tenjin (Kitano Temman-gu Shrine)" respectively, and these flea markets attract large crowds of visitors. On the grounds, there are more than 1000 open-air booths selling antiques, local specialty goods, plants, gardening items, pottery, and used clothes. You can easily spend an entire day strolling around the fair without becoming bored. In Kitano Tenman-gu Shrine, there is also a Kakizome (First Calligraphy of the Year) exhibition and a special limited time public opening of treasures in the Treasure House.
