Enjoy a ride on a pleasure boat! Watch traditional fishing methods

Ukai is a traditional method of fishing in which Japanese cormorants are skillfully controlled to catch freshwater fish. This method of catching fish has been in practice in Arashiyama for a thousand years, and it is now a symbol of summer in Kyoto.
During summer, an event is held in which spectators can watch the cormorant fishermen's superb skill at the leashes from the comfort of a pleasure boat. Why not enjoy an evening drifting in a pleasure boat along the peaceful river, admiring the traditional art of ukai and the night-time scenery of Arashiyama lit up by the flames of the torches hung out by the fishermen.
