Fushimi's new sake Enjoy new sake in Fushimi
Japanese sake is made in the cold season from late autumn to spring, using rice harvested in autumn every year. It is called Shinshu (new sake) and the coming season is when sake is sold as Shinshu. Unlike wine, sake doesn't need to be aged, so it's best to enjoy sake when it's fresh. There are many different types of sake, like refined sake, pure rice sake, and Ginjoshu (brewed from white rice milled to 60%). Why not try them all to see which one you like best!
Fushimi, 10 minutes away by train from Kyoto Station, is a major sake brewing area. Japanese sake brewed in Fushimi has a clean and mild taste.
"Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum" was founded by sake brewers in Fushimi, where visitors can observe the brewing process. There is a sake store named Aburacho near the museum. They usually have more than 80 kinds of sake brewed in Fushimi, and you can choose any 3 of them for tasting (150yen - 550 yen).
