Kitano Odori
Chaya is a teahouse where Geisha entertain guests and a chaya district is called Hanamachi. Among the 5 Hanamachi in Kyoto, Kamishichiken has the longest history. An event called Kitano Odori is held every year in Kamishichiken. It is a spectacular dance event performed by Geisha and Maiko (young women who are still in training to become a Geisha) in Kamishichiken. They showcase dancing and other performances they have been practicing every day. The finale is spectacular and a must-see. It is called "Kamishichiken Nocturne", performed by Geisha dressed in a black-based chic kimono and glamorous Maiko dressed in colorful kimonos. Before the opening, a tea ceremony by Geisha and Maiko is available as well.
