Letters and symbols ablaze with fire appear suddenly in the mountains surrounding Kyoto. This event was originally held to guide the souls of the departed, who return to this world during the Bon period and go back again to the other world. Today, however, this event is a typical summer event in Kyoto. If you are interested in pottery, don’t miss the Touki-ichi pottery fair which features as many as 500 stores.
